Today I had the misfortune of interacting with a city of Newark meter maid. After ticketing me for parking in front of my house, I tried to explain to her that I parked in that location to avoid an oncoming city garbage truck, which would not have been able to pass had I not parked where I was. Her suggestion was that I should have kept my car in the way of the dump truck, relying on the driver to not hit one of the cars parked on the road. The best part was this: she said that if the garbage truck had hit my car, it would have been okay because the city would have paid for it. Nevermind that both my car and the city's dump truck would have been damaged in the process, and that the people of Newark would have footed the bills for both repairs. The meter maid's number is 9579.
I have already paid the ticket, all I want is for the parking staff to receive some form of training in how to interact with citizens. Perhaps some lessons on how the government gets funded are in order as well.
