[ARCHIVED] City of Newark to Host 46th Annual Community Day

Community_Day

Residents and visitors will have plenty to see, try and taste at the 46th annual Community Day event being held this Sunday, September 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the University of Delaware Green. Nearly 200 vendors have registered to participate.

"Community Day is a long-standing tradition in Newark and a fun event for the whole family," said acting city manager Tom Coleman. "Its continued success is attributed to the many community partners who support the event and to the staff and volunteers who work diligently every year to plan, manage and oversee the activities and offerings of the day."

The event is free to attend and features entertainment and fun for the whole family. Local businesses and non-profit organizations will gather on the Green to highlight their organization and engage the public with information about their mission, activities, volunteer opportunities, and more. Fine artists, crafters, and retail businesses will be selling their creations and wares throughout the day. As always, food vendors will offer a wide variety of food options for festival goers on Delaware Avenue. The children's area will feature games and activities at a pint-sized price in addition to our very popular scarecrow making.

New this year: Diamond State Curling Club will be doing curling demonstrations on Delaware Avenue and the City of Newark Public Works and Water Resources Department will be testing visitor's recycling knowledge with an interactive game.

This year's entertainment schedule (listed below) features numerous demonstrations and local musicians on two stages, concluding with up-and-coming country artist Devin Dawson, who will perform courtesy of WXCY, 103.7 FM. Dawson's popular hits include, "All On Me" and "I Don't Care Who Sees."
