The City of Newark Police Department (NPD) announced the official release of its 2017 trading cards this week. Officers and civilian employees of the Department will each have over 1,000 cards to distribute to members of the public now through June 11. As part of the project, children can participate in a card collection contest by collecting all 100 available cards and be entered into a raffle to win prizes, including a grand prize trip for a family of four to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
"The goal of the trading card project is to foster good community relations and to promote increased, positive interaction between residents and officers," said police chief Paul Tiernan. "The card collection contest gives local kids a chance to win prizes, but it's also a great opportunity for them to have fun getting to know the men and women who are sworn to keep them safe."The series of 100 cards includes photographs and biographies of employees as well as specialty cards that highlight police K9s, vehicles, specialized units, and historical facts of the NPD. Children can collect the cards by visiting the municipal building or attending one of many scheduled "Officer of the Day" events at local businesses in the Newark area. Several prize packages will be raffled off to children who collect complete sets of 100 trading cards. The complete list of prizes includes: - Bicycle Package (six packages available, provided by Bike Line): includes bicycle and helmet; total prize package value of up to $275.
- Skateboard Package (12 packages available, provided by Switch Skate and Snow): includes skateboard, helmet, elbow/knee/wrist guard pad package and one week of skateboard camp provided by City of Newark Parks and Recreation Department; total prize package value of up to $390.
