City of Newark Election Results

Newark, DE- Chris Hamilton, Mark Morehead and Jerry Clifton will officially be sworn in as City Council members for the new term on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.  Morehead (District 1) and Clifton (District 2) ran unopposed during this election, following the withdraw of Sharon Hughes in District 2, while Chris Hamilton successfully challenged two-term Councilwoman Marge Hadden (District 4). Unofficial polling results for District 4 are as follows:

Councilman Morehead:
"I would like to welcome back Councilman Clifton; I would like to congratulate and welcome our newly elected Councilman Chris Hamilton; and I would like to thank the residents of District 1 for their continued support.

"Our community faces many opportunities and challenges. As we approach the decisions affecting our future, I commit to supporting transparency, inclusiveness, and fiscal responsibility. I welcome the input of all residents, so that we can make the most informed decisions, which I believe will be the best decisions."

Councilman-elect Clifton:
"I'm honored to be back at the table doing the work of the people. I am looking forward to the next two years, making significant progress in moving Newark forward while working with the residents of District 2 on issues impacting them and our community."

Councilman-elect Hamilton:
"I want to thank the residents of District 4 for coming out today - there was a large turnout at the polls. The more people who we can engage in the civic process, the stronger Newark will become."

Results will be officially certified by the Election Board on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
