2nd UPDATE: Arrest Made, False Report, Newark Police Investigate Kidnapping/Robbery


March 14, 2017 – The Newark Police Department has arrested Brenda Aydin for falsely reporting an incident to the police. Aydin was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday March 14th after an extensive overnight investigation into this incident.  

 

After the incident occurred, numerous officers and investigators from the Newark Police Department, New Castle County Police Department, Delaware State Police and the University of Delaware Police converged on Christina Mill Drive to investigate this case. Newark Detectives noticed that there were inconsistencies in the series of events reported, and were able to determine that the incident did not occur and was falsely reported. Aydin was arrested on the below charge and arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #2. Aydin was released on $500 unsecured bond.

March 14, 2017 – The Newark Police Department, through an extensive overnight investigation, has determined that this case has been falsely reported.  Charges for falsely reporting an incident are forthcoming.

Newark Police Investigate Kidnapping/Robbery

 

March 13, 2017 – On Monday March 13, 2017  at approximately 8:13 p.m. the Newark Police responded to the 300 block of Christina Mill Drive for a report of a robbery.  Officers made contact with the 24 year old female victim who stated that she was approached from behind while in the parking lot of the Christina Mill apartment complex, and forced into her apartment with a weapon to her back. Once inside the apartment, the suspect stole jewelry from the victim and then fled the area.  

 

The suspect was described as an unknown race male, between 5’4” and 6’00” tall, wearing a mask and gloves. The suspect had an undetermined accent when he talked.  

 

The investigation is in its beginning stages and additional details will be released as they become available.
