Posted on: December 13, 2021[ARCHIVED] The Charles Emerson Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge on Paper Mill Road Opens

The Charles Emerson Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge opened today, December 10, after the final decking and assembly was completed. The 194-foot long, 12-foot wide bridge is located along Paper Mill Road as it crosses the White Clay Creek south of Curtis Mill Park. It sits adjacent to the vehicular bridge that crosses the creek. "We're excited to announce the opening of the bicycle and pedestrian bridge and provide a safe passage across the White Clay Creek for pedestrians and cyclists," said Parks and Recreation Director Joe Spadafino. "We thank the many partners that made this project possible." The bridge is named after Charlie Emerson, Newark’s former Parks and Recreation Director who retired in 2016 after 35 years of dedicated service. A formal ribbon cutting ceremony will be held in early 2022. |
