Citing personal reasons, District 1 Councilman James Horning announced his immediate resignation from Newark City Council. Mayor Jerry Clifton and the remaining members of council will hold a special council meeting on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. and set the date for a special election during which his replacement will be selected. 

“I will always reflect fondly on the teamwork and dedication of staff and employees that moved our City forward the past couple of years,” said Mr. Horning. “I am forever grateful to my neighbors in District 1 that entrusted and supported me with this great honor and privilege and I am committed to helping my successor serve our neighbors well.”
