Due to the accumulation of snow and anticipated worsening conditions, the City of Newark offices will be closed tomorrow, February 1, 2021. The Municipal Building and Parking Office will be closed for drop-offs and staff will be unavailable by phone for non-emergencies.
The weekly City Council meeting will occur as scheduled. Public comments may be submitted on the items on the agenda via email to council@newark.de.us by 6:00 p.m. Members of the public may join the meeting virtually by clicking here at 7:00 p.m.
A Snow Emergency has been declared for the City of Newark. Crews are actively performing snow removal on residential streets as as well as from paved trails once the snow ends. To assist crews in effectively removing snow from streets, residents should park their cars in their driveway, if possible. Vehicles along the emergency routes after 9:00 p.m. tonight, January 31, will be towed.
The winter storm is expected to be long in duration with up to eight inches of snow and high winds predicted. Information on the Snow and Ice Control Plan, Snow Plow Routes, Snow Emergency Routes, the most current National Weather Service Forecasts and general winter storm information can be found at www.newarkde.gov/snow.
Re-opening plans are dependent upon the effects of the storm. Updates will be posted to TV22 and the City's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Residents are encouraged to sign up for InformMe notifications to receive updates via text, email and phone.
