**Update: the Water Ambassador Program is at capacity, but residents can still request a free lead and copper test by calling the Public Works and Water Resources Department at 302-366-7000.
Newark’s Public Works and Water Resources Department has established the Water Quality Ambassador Program to confirm the safety of the drinking water within the City. Recent tests demonstrate that the lead and copper levels are in compliance with EPA and State levels, but upgrades at Newark’s two water treatment plants require the City to provide biannual samples from at least 60 unique sources to the Delaware Office of Drinking Water. Previously, the City was required to submit 30 samples every three years.
To participate in the Water Quality Ambassador Program, residents are required to provide three water samples. The first will be collected in October, followed by Spring and Fall 2021. After the third acceptable sample has been returned, residents will receive a $50.00 utility bill credit. After the City receives 70 participants, it will no longer offer a financial incentive; however, water customers can still request a lead and copper test at no cost. Customers interested in registering should contact Lisa Pisarski at LPisarski@newark.de.us or call 302.366.7000. Ambassadors will receive additional information and instruction upon registration.
