On Sunday, March 22, Governor John Carney ordered all Delawareans to stay at home effective Tuesday, March 24, beginning at 8:00 a.m. to help slow the community spread of the COVID-19. All individuals currently living within the State of Delaware must stay home or at their place of residence unless considered essential. This emergency declaration will stay in effect until May 15, 2020, or until the threat to public health is eliminated. A list of essential and non-essential businesses can be found here.

The City of Newark encourages all residents to comply with the Governor’s order to stay at home in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Delaware. Residents may still go to grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, medical offices and other essential service locations only as necessary. The City also asks residents not to hoard essential items as there is enough supply as long all that is needed is purchased. Carryout, delivery and pickup is still available at participating restaurants; please patronize local Newark businesses during this very difficult time.
