Two Wilmington Men Arrested for Burglary; Third Suspect Sought

Dash Burglary

On May 26, 2018, at about 0600 hours, Newark Police responded to a burglary alarm at Dash Discount Liquors located at 1142 Elkton Road in Newark. The business was closed at the time. Arriving officers found a broken front window and numerous bottles of alcohol and cartons of cigarettes pulled from the store shelves. A review of surveillance footage revealed that three suspects arrived in a blue sedan. One suspect threw a rock through the window and entered the business through the shattered glass. He took alcohol and cigarettes from the shelves, as well as money from the cash register. He placed them in a plastic garbage bag that had been given to him by a second suspect. A third suspect remained near the vehicle outside the business. Both suspects inside the store removed alcohol, cigarettes and money from the cash register and all three suspects fled the scene in the vehicle.

Fingerprints lifted from one of the bottles left behind were found to belong to Larry Mills. Mills was arrested in August, 2018 and charged with the below offenses. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was held in the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in default of $10,750 secured bail.

The subject who remained outside with the vehicle was identified through investigation as the vehicle’s owner, Randy Smith.

On September 27, 2018, a search warrant was executed at Smith’s residence in Wilmington and items linking Smith to the burglary were recovered. He was charged with the below offenses and appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle and was released on $4,000 unsecured bail.

The identity of the third suspect is unknown at this time. He is described as a light-skinned male wearing a black baseball hat with a white bandana over his face. A surveillance photo is attached.
