Newark, DE (September 24, 2018) - Newark Police have arrested a 15 year-old male Newark High School student for the threat found today at Newark High School. Following an immediate investigation by the Newark Police School Resource Officer ("SRO") assigned to the school and the Criminal Investigations Division, an arrest warrant was obtained charging the juvenile with one count of Terroristic Threatening. He was taken into custody at his residence in the Newark area without incident.
He was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he appeared via video before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle. The defendant was released on $300 unsecured bail to the custody of his parent. He was ordered not to have any contact with Newark High School pending a future appearance in New Castle County Family Court.
The arrest stemmed from a handwritten, non-specific threat found in the school at about 10:20 am today by a teacher at Newark High School. The details of the writing will not be disseminated. Staff notified the SRO who immediately began to investigate. Additional Newark Officers were sent to the school as a precaution and to ensure the safety of everyone at the school.
Questions as to the status of the student should be directed to the Christina School District.
The Newark Police Department affirms that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
