UPDATE – Shot Fired Investigation
May 9, 2018 – The Newark Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit has arrested Sajhid Goldson, a 28-year-old male from Wilmington, for the March 17, 2018 domestic related incident where one gunshot was fired at a male victim in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn.
On Tuesday May 8, 2018, the Newark Police executed a search warrant at a residence on the 1900 block of West 7th Street in Wilmington. At this location, Goldson was taken into custody. A search of the residence revealed a handgun which was consistent with evidence located at the scene of the initial incident. A large quantity of Marijuana was also located during the search.
Goldson was charged with the following:
Reckless Endangering 1st Degree
Aggravated Menacing
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition by a Person Prohibited (2 counts)
Possession of a controlled substance (Marijuana) with Intent to Distribute
Assault 3rd Degree
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Not Related to Personal Use Marijuana
Goldson was arraigned by Justice of The Peace Court #2 and transported to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $41,250.00 secured bond.
“I would like to commend the tireless efforts of our patrol officers, criminal investigators, and SWAT Team members who have taken another dangerous suspect off the streets”, said Chief of Police Paul M. Tiernan.

Shot Fired Investigation
March 17, 2018 – On Saturday March 17, 2018 at approximately 8:47 a.m. the Newark Police responded to the area of the Red Roof Inn, 1119 South College Avenue, for a report of a shot fired. Officers learned that two subjects were in a vehicle and were leaving the hotel, when a Honda Pilot pulled in behind them. A male suspect got out of the Honda and confronted the male victim and struck him with a handgun. The male victim fled the area on foot, being chased by the armed suspect. During this time, a round was fired from the handgun, however, no one was struck. The suspect fled the area in the Honda with a second suspect in the vehicle.
This investigation is in its initial stages and is being investigated as possibly domestic related. This incident did not involve University of Delaware students, and there is not an ongoing threat to anyone in the area.
