Our Mission

Our mission is to expose citizens to the everyday tasks, the requirements, the culture, the drawbacks, and the rewards of law enforcement.

We will work very hard at dispelling misconceptions and the myths created by Hollywood and others about this profession.

Program Background

The 1st Citizens’ Police Academy program was conducted in 1998. Since its inception, over 200 citizens from the greater Newark area have graduated.

Main Purpose

The main purpose of the Academy is to expose citizens to the everyday tasks of law enforcement officers, thereby fostering a community-based relationship that works with law enforcement to solve problems together.
