About Public Hearings

Following the Planning and Development Director's review of a report to the Planning Commission on an item before the commission, the applicant's presentation, and commission's discussion, the meeting is opened for public comment.

Individuals who wish to comment on Planning Commission agenda items should submit their comments via email to
planning-dept@newark.de.us by 5:00 p.m. on the date of the meeting. These comments will be read into the record during public comment.

Individuals who wish to speak before the commission in person on an agenda item should sign in on the list provided at the entrance of the Council Chamber prior to the start of the meeting if they are attending in person or should use the hand raise function or submit their name, district and agenda item on which they would like to speak via the chat function if attending remotely via Microsoft Teams.

Speakers

Individuals who have signed up to speak will be called forward to the podium by the Chair to speak if attending in person or asked by the Chair to unmute themselves to speak if attending remotely. Thereafter, other members of the public may request to be recognized by the Chair in order to speak. Anyone who wishes to speak will be given an opportunity to be heard. The Chair, however, may request that repetitive comments be kept brief and to the point. While providing comment, speakers should state their name and address for the official record and be sure to speak into the microphone so comments are recorded properly.

Information regarding Planning Commission public hearings can be found on the Planning Commission agenda posted 7 days in advance of the meeting date. City Council public hearings are scheduled by the City Secretary’s Office and they can be contacted at citysecretary@newark.de.us or (302) 366-7000 for additional information.
