The Newark Police Department submits all reported crimes to the FBI through the State Bureau of Identification.
In 2021, the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Program transitioned from its long-time Summary Reporting System (or SRS, a simple collection of counts of crimes and arrests) to the more comprehensive National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which provides more information about offenses, victims, offenders, and a myriad of demographics and characteristics of a crime incident.
The graphs on this page represent a brief summary of major crimes reported in the NIBRS system.
For a comprehensive look at the available data, click here to use the FBI's Crime Data Explorer. At this site, information about additional crimes, trends and clearance rates is available at the local, state and national level.
Up-to-date information on recent crime can be found on the Crime Mapping website.
Note: Arson offenses occurring in the City of Newark are reported by the State Fire Marshal and not the Newark Police Department.
Information about crashes within the City of Newark can be found on the State of Delaware's Public Crash Data Map.
